Ladoga, Aug. 8 -- David W. Peffley, 78 years of age, and a veteran of the civil
war, attempted suicide Monday at his home near Ladoga. the aged
man used a shotgun in trying to end his life and it is rumored
that he shot himself twice before falling mortally wounded. The
shooting occurred at the Peffely home, two and one-half miles
north of here sometime between eight and nine o'clock Monday
morning. Mr. Peffley was at his home at the time and was found
lying in a pool of blood by his wife. Two doctors were rushed to
the home and every effort made to save his life. Although all
hopes for his recovery have been abandoned he was still living
late today. Ill health was assigned as the cause for his
act.
